The vape community is currently facing a time of uncertainty, where facts seem to be skewed and the national media isn’t necessarily helping the situation by fanning the flames of misinformation. Twist E-Liquids has long been a proud part of this community, and your continued support is directly tied to our success. This is why we want to do as much as we can to help spread the facts and more objective information about vaping.
We took our time to dive into various research articles that have studied the effects of vaping, and that provide impartial information that will be beneficial to all vapers out there. Below are some of the highlights that stood out to us from reading the study published by Public Health England (PHE) titled “Evidence review of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products 2018”:
- The research findings show that vaping poses a small fraction of the risks of smoking and that switching to vaping and discarding smoking have substantial health benefits.
- Nicotine itself causes very little harm. Although it is addictive, the harm found from smoking cigarettes comes from the toxic smoke, and that is the main culprit of tobacco-related disease and death.
- Most people who smoke cigarettes have a very poor understanding of where the harm in smoking lies. There is a common misconception that the danger lies in nicotine, but the danger actually lies in the lethal mix of 7,000 cigarette smoke ingredients, 70 of which are known to cause cancer.
The PHE evidence review came just a few weeks after a US National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine report was published on e-cigarettes. Essentially, the report’s conclusion on e-cigarette safety based on the available evidence suggests that “e-cigarettes are likely to be far less harmful than combustible tobacco cigarettes.”
Professor John Newton, Director for Health Improvement at PHE said:
“Our new review reinforces the finding that vaping is a fraction of the risk of smoking, at least 95% less harmful, and of negligible risk to bystanders. Yet over half of smokers either falsely believe that vaping is as harmful as smoking or just don’t know.”
